Promote mentoring in your organisation
National Mentoring Day
27th October
Help your people discover the value of mentoring
this National Mentoring Day
A great mentoring programme only works when people know about it.
That’s why we’ve created this collection of ready-to-use resources to help you raise awareness of the Charity Mentoring Network within your organisation. Whether you’re launching mentoring for the first time, looking to increase participation or simply want to remind people that the opportunity is there, you’ll find materials you can use across your internal communications.
Ready-to-use graphics
Use these graphics on your intranet, in newsletters, on Microsoft Teams, in presentations or across your internal communications.
Each one has been designed to start a conversation about mentoring. From the benefits of having a mentor to the value you can offer as one.
Give an hour. Gain a perspective.
A simple invitation to take the first step: make time for a conversation, share what you know and learn from someone else.
Make the most of the resources
You don’t need a big campaign to get people talking about mentoring.
Try sharing a graphic alongside a short message in your staff newsletter. Add one to your Teams channels. Include a reminder in a learning and development update. Put a poster somewhere people will see it.
And don’t rely on a single announcement.
People are busy, and opportunities can easily get missed. A few well-timed reminders can help keep mentoring visible and encourage people to take that next step.
A few ideas to get you started
- Share a different graphic each week during your campaign.
- Include a mentoring graphic in your staff newsletter.
- Add mentoring to your regular learning and development communications.
- Share a mentor or mentee story to bring the opportunity to life.
- Use a team meeting to ask: “What could you learn from someone working in another charity?”
- Encourage existing mentors and mentees to talk about their experience.
- Re-promote the opportunity after a few months. Not everyone will be ready to sign up the first time they hear about it.
Help people see what mentoring can be
Sometimes the easiest way to explain mentoring is simply to show what it can look like. Across the Charity Mentoring Network, people are using mentoring to share experience, explore development opportunities, build confidence, gain new perspectives and make connections beyond their own organisations.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It starts with a conversation.
